The Centro di Studi Irlandesi di Palermo  [The Palermo Centre of Irish Studies] was established in 2006, when Professor Sciarrino joined the University of Palermo as a lecturer.

The Centre organised and hosted the tenth EFACIS Conference on Irish Studies: a conference attended by approximately one hundred guests from all over the world.

Over the years, the Centre has remained active, organising seminars on Irish literature topics for students of the University of Palermo, and publishing two collections of essays by Italian and foreign scholars: Irish-Italian Studies. New Perspectives on Cultural Mobility and Impermeability (2018) and the latest issue of the Class-A periodical InVerbis entitled “New Perspectives in Irish Theatre” (2021).

As part of the EFACIS Itinerary, the Centre hosted meetings with two important Irish writers: Deirdre Madden and Marina Carr. These meetings were addressed to the university’s student community and to students from schools in Palermo.
